Hi gals! I hope everyone is having a great weekend! It has been pouring ALL weekend here and I love it….good crafting time! So, as I have mentioned in my past blogs we just moved and I am constantly decorating! I wanted to share my first room that I have finished (well, finished for now but I don’t think I will ever be finished with any room). It is my dining room a.k.a. my “smile room”. Everyone has that room, accent, piece of furniture, etc. in their house that makes them smile every time they look at it and for me that is my dining room. Every time I walk through it I feel so happy and I just smile!!!!!
This is before.
And this is after!!!!!
Most of the pieces in this room I have blogged about at one point or another. The curtains were made by Whitney!!! I reap the rewards of her talents!!! (Thanks sis). One of my very favorite pieces in this room is the table and chairs. This set was given to me by my grandparents (thank you Meme and Papa). It was their first dining table after they were married, they passed it on to my Aunt Laura and then passed it on to me and I am forever grateful! We had it stripped and my grandmother helped me stain it!
Another before.
And another after. The plates on the hutch I purchased at Hobby Lobby for $5 each and the lanterns on the table I purchased at Home Goods for $7 – $10 each. I love cheap buys!
One last after. I LOVE these allen + roth curtain rods from Lowe’s! Whitney introduced them to me, they were not cheap but they were so worth the money! I’m so happy to share my “smile room” with you girls and I hope that you were inspired! I’d love to hear about your “smile room” as well!

I will be linking my smile room up at Met Mondays over at Between Naps on the Porch… Check it out and be inspired! http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/2009/09/welcome-to-35th-metamorphosis-monday.html

  1. The best part of all is the treasure of the memories you have of your grandparents each time you sit at the table. What a blessing.

  3. I love that you call it the "smile room". Makes me smile just thinking of the name. I wish I had a smile room in my house. I have parts that make me smile. But not one complete room I can call my smile room. They will all be that way until I can afford to replace the ugly teal blue carpet we have throughout our house that I hate.

  4. I think Me Me and Pa Pa had it for about 20 years and we got it from them when we got married. We had it for about 20 years. I love how the kids wrote really hard when they did homework and have indentions in the top. Some of the words they wrote are visible. J. Lee did lots of homework at that table when we were dating. Lots of sentimental value in that table.

  5. This room made me smile too! I know this makes your grandmother happy to see you use her first dining set and know that you will create new memories here. You are right–when you finish decorating, it's time to move :0) !

  6. Hi Ashley – what a beautiful transformation! I love heirloom pieces with history and story. Such treasures! It looks great! 🙂

  7. Your "smile room" looks great. You have some great pieces but my favorite is the table and chairs because they belonged to your grandparents….and how cool is it that your grandma helped you refinish it too!!

  8. I like that a "smile room". Looks wonderful! What a special addition to have a sentimental piece.

This rain is wonderful. Somehow it makes my kids quiet and I am able to craft too. If only our backyard was not flooding…

  9. How cool that you have pieces from your grandparents. I wonder if they would have guessed that all of these years later their granddaughter would be so thrilled to have the set in her own home, in a smile room, no less.
