Hey guys!  I have had a lot of questions on how I painted my bedroom furniture.  Here is the before….

We bought this furniture when we were married (almost 9 years ago) and it was time for a change!  I love the lines in the headboard and I was not ready to fork over $$$ for new furniture, so I used Dutch Boy White Oak latex paint in a satin finish.

Here is the after!

I used a whizz roller and a Purdy paintbrush to paint on two coats!  I LOVE the Dutch Boy paint btw!  It only needed two coats, the smell is very minimal and the texture of the paint is awesome!

I am in love with my new bedroom now!  It really is amazing that a gallon of paint can make such a huge difference!

I painted the iron on the headboard but went back and distressed it a little.

Now, I am no expert when it comes to painting furniture and I’m sure the experts will say to strip, sand down, prime and all that fun stuff but…….I’m working during nap time;)  I spent about 5 hours total painting every piece in my room (dresser and armoire not shown) and I am very happy with outcome!  Love me some Dutch Boy White Oak;)

  1. I was wondering if you thought that the paint would scratch off without sanding/priming. I love how it changed your room and have some furniture I would love to do this too, but would hate to paint it all and have it scratch easily. Thanks so much!

    1. I have the same exact headboard that I picked up from the local restore, but there wasn’t a footboard, but I found one a few months ago that knida sorta matched it.. I am shocked at how much it looks like the actual one that went with the headboard.. man.. funny how things work out… Great Job!!

  2. I absolutely love it painted!!! You did a great job 🙂

Painting and rehabbing old furniture is one of my favorite things to do. In fact I’m just starting to rehab a French Country Dining set… which we found this past weekend for a steal on Craigslist. If you have a chance come check it out on my blog. I am posting the job from beginning to end while in process.

  3. It looks sooo good! Nobody would know that you didn’t just buy that. Not bad for 9 years old! Now I’m going to search your blog for the art over your bed.

  4. this is such great information!! i have a bedroom set to paint and didn’t have a clue if a good white to use! also do you think this would be a good wall color/finish, say over wainscoting or board and batten? (do people used satin finish on walls?) thanks so much!!

  5. Awesome before and after!! I have a house full of oak I’m trying to paint slowly but surely. It looks so light and fresh. Good job!

    1. Thank you Jackie! I had to work on my husband for about 2 1/2 years. He has finally gotten to the point where he just trusts that I won’t ruin it;)

  6. Is there a dresser that goes with that set? Did you paint the dresser as well? If you did, could I see a picture of it please.

  7. I LOVE IT! I am totally impressed that you were able to see something new and so gorgeous in something you look at every day. Very nice! And, lol, we have the same ruffley pillow on our bed as well. So pretty.
