$10 DIY Chevron Brag Boards

Hey guys!

With 5 kiddos (3 in elementary school) my fridge was running out of space to display their work!  I decided to make them each a Brag Board so they can show their latest art or grade they are proud of.  Here is how they turned out…

These are really simple to make!

I started with a piece of 1/2″ MDF from Home Depot.  THIS is the board I bought from Home Depot.  I cut mine into pieces that are 16″x24″.  Home Depot can cut them for you for free.  That is $10 total for wood to make 3 of these… Not bad!

My next step was to give them a base coat.  I like to use latex paint for my base coat.  MDF likes to soak up spray paint.  I laid mine out and used a Behr Off-White latex paint.

While those were drying I started on my letters.  I found these great chipboard letters at Hobby Lobby for $1.50 a box at half off… Whoop!  I bought one box for each board.

I mixed these two paints together to make my coral color…

And here they are drying…

While those were drying I finished my boards up.  I used my Silhouette Cameo to make my chevron stencils out of Contact Paper.  I actually ran out of contact paper and used vinyl for the last two pieces.  If you don’t have a Cameo, you can also do stripes with painter’s tape or use a store bought stencil from somewhere like Hobby Lobby.

I used grey acrylic paint for my chevron pattern.  This took 2 coats…

After it dried I used an 80 grit sanding block to “shanty” it up a bit.  I love the modern pattern with the roughed up texture… So fun!

Then I hot glued my letters on…

To attach my clips I used Gorilla Glue Epoxy.  I love this stuff!  It has the consistency of hot glue, but a super permanent hold.  It’s a bit stinky when you apply it, but when it dries you can’t smell it at all.  You will love it!

I mixed my glue….

And let them dry…

To hang them I used sawtooth hangers like these…

Just hammer them into the back of your board…

My last step was hanging them on the wall!

Hope you like them! My kids certainly do!  They kept asking me when I would be finished with them so they could hang their first “masterpiece” ;-)

And I love that each board cost me under $10!  My kind of project!

I would LOVE for you to pin them below!

Thank you so much for stopping by!  Let me know if you have any questions, and you can also ask us on our Facebook page!

These are awesome, I just made three. Thanks for the idea, I will make sure to give you the credit :-). I was wondering about the rest of the wall… Did you do the board and batton treatment w/ hooks yourself? Have a wall in my entry I would love to try that on and am looking for ideas.

I am SO pinning this. I love the project and will be making one. But the really awesome part is I have 3 grandchildren. You have the names of TWO of them!!! Avery and Hayden are my 2 oldest! You are only missing my youngest Maci! Isnt that funny! I had to pin it so my daughter could see it. She follows me and is the mother of my oldest, Avery! So needless to say I will be making this project..Seems to “meant to be” not to! I will follow along and see what else you make too!

Thank you so much for the inspiration.

Thanks, I am going to make 3 of these today. Random question: What color is your wall color behind the Chevron Boards? It is such a pretty neutral.

    Thanks!!!

Love, love, love them! I even already have the chipboard letters. I think I would like to make some to put 8 x10 pictures of my 4 kids on there. Very cute idea, thanks for sharing!:)

Wow, that is a great idea – very creative. I wish I had thought of something like that when the kids were younger. I have four but they are all older now. Very smart idea.

These are great! I’m in love with all things chevron! I love this idea – I too hate a cluttered fridge exterior and my 6yo is a little artist..I have to limit what he can put up or our whole house would be covered in his works! :-) And I’ve got a 19mo who will be creating works of art to add to the mix very soon! http://www.justhadabrightidea.blogspot.com Love your blog!

I sooo love these. Don’t have any kidlings at home…but they could be adaptable for a lot of situations….bills…office…todo lists…groceries….phone numbers…lots of things. Not too childish so the color and the pattern is super.

These are great! LOVE the colors you chose too! I know your kiddos will love seeing their masterpieces displayed! I too love the gorilla glue epoxy and, yes, it is quite stinky…but sooo worth it! thanks for sharing the tutorial! Bonnie ;)
