As many of you know, Ash just moved into her new house. She has been busy building all of the furniture for it, and hit me up to make her some window panels for her dining and living room. She watched the kids… I did a little sewing… Fair trade, don’t you think? 😉 Here is how they turned out!
How cute is that fabric? We found it at one of our favorite online fabric spots…
It’s called OnlineFabricStore.net !
LOVE this store… Not only are their prices the best around, they also ship very fast and have a huge selection of fabric. THIS is the fabric we chose for Ashley’s house…
I have a tried and true method I use to sew lined panels. I am far from an expert seamstress, and I feel like this method is very simple! If you can sew a straight line, you are good to go!
I used the same method on my dining room window panels. The fabric I used for these panels is HERE on Online Fabric Store.
First… Cut both your drapery fabric and your liner 3.5″ longer than the length you want it. I also cut my liner so that my drapery fabric was 2″ wider than the liner.
Next, I like to do my bottom hems. Fold your hem on each piece up 3″ and iron to keep it in place.
I did the same for my drapery fabric and put a straight stitch on all 4 pieces.
Now you should have 4 separate pieces of fabric… 2 drapery pieces and 2 liner pieces. Join 1 drapery piece and 1 liner together good sides facing each other. Make sure your hems are on the same end. Now run a straight stitch down each side. You should have a big “pillowcase” with two open ends.
Finally, you will run a straight stitch along the top of both pieces. This will be the opposite end of your hems you did earlier. Once you have finished that you are ready to flip it right side out.
Final step… Yeah! Iron your edges down for a clean look. Because you made your drapery fabric slightly wider than your liner, your edges should look a bit like this from the back.
Now just clip it up and you are set! I finished Ashley’s in a couple hours. If you have a sewing machine and can do a straight stitch, you can make these!
Here they are all finished!
Make sure to check out Online Fabric Store!
We would LOVE for you to share this with your friends! You guys are awesome!

Is the “white” portion of these curtains white or cream?
Hi! How long are your curtains? How much yards did you buy? I can sew ok but i am not good on deciding how many yards to buy.
Nice! Looks awesome!
Nice! Looks awesome!
Great work!
Thank you Natalie! There is a link to the couches at the bottom or the post. Bought them on Amazon!
Hello, I just love this room. Simply Beautiful. Question, what color do you have on your ceiling?
Thank you! Fairmont penthouse stone by Valspar 🙂
Read this twice….nice technique, but did you leave an opening at the top for turning right side out?? I would think it’s got to be there somewhere…
the bottome hems were left open for turning
And then they’re left open even when the curtain is hanging? So the whole thing remains a big tube?
Hey there Anna – yes, leave the bottom open. When you are in a store that sells curtains, take a look – then it will make sense. ?
love the curtains!! what color is the paint on the wall?
Thank you Chrystal! It is Fairmont
Penthouse Stone by Valspar!
So brilliantly simple! I will be using your technique when I get around to making my next panels
Thank you Riann:)
Question for you, when you sew the long sides and the top, how much of a seam allowance do you use?
