DIY Modern Farmhouse Platform Bed

Hey friends!

Happy Wednesday!  We are sharing a really fun and SIMPLE DIY Modern Farmhouse Platform Bed with y’all today!  I built this for my second son who will be sharing a room with his little brother here pretty soon!  We are also calling this Brooks’ Platform Bed.  Before we get started, be sure to check out the DIY video HERE or below!

How cute is this bed??  I am so happy with how it turned out!

You can download and print the FREE PLANS by clicking HERE!

The first step after making your cuts for the planks of the headboard is adding 3/4″ pocket holes to the boards.  I used my K5 Kreg Jig for this part.  We often get asked which model should  be purchased if just beginning, and we always suggest the K5.  It is the most user friendly, and it will do small projects up to large ones!  You can see it HERE on Amazon!

Once you have all the planks attached with pocket hole screws, it should look like this from the back.

Next we attached the planks to the legs of the headboard.  The legs are 2×6 boards that we ripped down to 4″ wide.  IF you don’t do this, you will need to modify the plans a bit to keep the overall width the same!

We added a line of glue down each leg and attached them to the sides of the planks using 1.25″ pocket hole screws through the planks and into each leg.

The top of the headboard is the last to be attached.  We used wood glue and 1.25″ pocket hole screws to attach it.

We planked the two boards for the footboard the same way.  Attach them with 1.25″ pocket hole screws.

The legs are also attached the same way.

The top board is a 2×2 board attached with 1.25″ pocket hole screws through the top plank and into the 2×2 board.

We built the rails next.  These are built by attaching the 2×2 cleat to the 1×8 runner using wood glue and 2″ Spax screws.  Make the pocket holes on each end before attaching these boards together.

At this point we stained the bed using Briarsmoke Stain by Varathane.

I did assemble the bed in his room once it was dry.  You can check out the video to see how we assembled it, and do it in an order that suits your space best!

Here it is all finished up!

I love this bed!!!! i will be definitely be making this for my son. He outgrew his toddler bed recently. Is that framing wood pretty sturdy? I am in the military and I move about every 2-3 years. Sometimes they have to take our furniture apart. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
