So, I have been very neglectful in photo displays around my house since we moved in.  I never have the right frames or the right place to display them but I have been on a mission lately to tackle this predicament.

I started with this picture that my friend took at Christmas.  She is WONDERFUL:) (thank you Cindy).  I love the shape/size of this picture but finding a frame is impossible.  So, gotta shanty it up!

I used a scrap piece of MDF that I had left over from other projects.  You can use any scrap lumber for this.  I traced around the picture to get the perfect size for the display.

Next, I cut the board down and sprayed it with 2 coats of Rust-oleum black semi-gloss spray paint.

I had these great brads hiding out in my scrapbooking drawers (crafting has taken the place of that hobby)…  If you don’t have any around the house, you can pick them up at Jo-Ann’s in the scrapbook area.

I marked off where I wanted them placed and screwed them in with itty bitty screws:)

I finished it off with a light sanding with my 3M sanding block around the edges and corners.  It would have been easier to do this first but I forgot;)  Still worked fine.

I slid the picture under the brads and that was it!

I propped it on top of the board and batten treatment I did in the kids bathroom:)  I think I will do the same with a few more in different sizes!

I love that this picture wasn’t “damaged” for this display!  We all have those pictures that we are afraid to harm and this project allowed for me to create a fun display without permanent damage:)  I can’t wait to add more!

Just a quick pic before I go….

Tenley took her first dip in the pool yesterday!  The boys LOVED it:)  Happy summer!!!!

  1. Awesome! I *would* however, add a simple piece of glass or plastic to cover it. Moisture in the air can cause it to warp as well as grease in the air, particles and dust (which is made up of skin, dirt, insect parts, etc) can discolor it and settle in it ruining it. They have thin ones that would fit under the clasp too!

  2. Love this project. We moved to LA last year and I have been neglectful as well of putting pics up. I love your idea. Looks like a great inexpensive project. Thanks for sharing.
