Hey friends!  I have been busy around here and I thought I would share a bit of progress.  With my new little man on the way, I have been in “nursery” mode.  Actually I have been in nesting mode and this week it took on the form of the nursery.  Love me some nesting.

I will be making his bedding and this is what I decided on for fabric…

It’s called Pooches and Pickups by Laurie Wisburn for Robert Kaufman.

I found it online and fell in LOVE.  I haven’t started the bedding yet but did decide to go with a black crib which set the tone for the rest of the furniture.  Last week I showed you my PB Knockoff Storage System I built for the new playroom.  I love the way it turned out and decided it would make a perfect piece for the new nursery as well.

I used the same plans from Ana’s site to build these.  I used 3/4″ MDF for the entire piece.   I had the nice man at Lowe’s (who ducks and runs every time he sees me) cut all my wood for me.  Actually, I sent my sweet hubby and stepdad to get the wood cut for me. Whoop! I used 3 sheets of MDF at $30 a piece.  I also had them rip the bead board for the doors and that sheet was $20.  My total cost for lumber was $110 which I thought was great!

I used Gorilla Wood Glue and 1 1/4″ brad nails to assemble everything.

I painted the whole piece with Valspar Black satin paint.  I am going to add a coat of satin polycrylic to the whole thing but haven’t quite made it that far yet.  I assembled it in the nursery and took some pics to show you guys…

I used some pulls I had leftover from building the house on the doors.  I found these at Lowe’s.

I will be doing the same storage boxes on the bottom as I do in the playroom.  That is my next project… I think.  Unless this whole nesting thing takes me a different direction.  Don’t worry.  I will keep you posted 🙂

I hope you like it!  I can’t stress enough how fun and truly easy it is to build with just a few tools.  It really is easier than putting together store-bought boxed furniture and so much more rewarding!  Plus, I spent less than $140 on this piece and good old PB charges $1,000… That’s without tax and shipping.  Wow…  That’s even hard to write.

Finally, I am so excited about tomorrow’s giveaway we have lined up!!  I can’t wait to share this product with you guys.  You will LOVE them.

I am off to tend to the 73 loads of laundry I have been hiding from for the last few days.  Don’t be jealous.

  1. I’m thinking of making this for my daughters room but she has just learned to climb, so I’m a little worried about the open bases at the bottom, do you think I could make it flush with the top so she wouldn’t be able to climb?
