Hi Shanty readers!

We are twin sisters Kelli & Kristi from Lolly Janeand are simply thrilled to share our most recent Halloween decor with you all today:

Our little corner of blogland is filled with for home improvement tips, craft tutorials, holiday decor, recipes and a good before&after or two.  We love how small touches of decor can customize a space and instantly make it yours.

We love love love all of Shanty2Chic’s candlestick creations and admit that since seeing their ever popular apothecary jars, we have a closet filled with all the goods to make similar creations… like today’s tutorial 😉  Thanks girls!

Supplies needed to make haunted birdhouses:

  • 3 unfinished wood birdhouses {$1/each @ Joann Crafts}
  • 3 unfinished wood candlesticks {(2) 3″ and (1) 6″ height}
  • 4 medium sized wood base circles
  • Paint: Black spray paint, acrylic paint, Foam brush
  • Glue: Mod Podge, Spray adhesive
  • Scrapbook paper in Halloween colors and/or prints
  • Miscellanious Halloween accessories, Silver glitter

To create these cute little haunted birdhouses:

1. Assemble* candlesticks.

{*Glue candlesticks onto base circles, then birdhouses onto the candlestick. See pic for stacking order… easy peasy!}

2. Cover candlestick birdhouses in black spray paint.

3. Trace/cut out scrapbook paper depending on birdhouse style; we covered the “bird” holes (except for the round house) then hole punched around the “perch.”

4. Mod Podge time! Light coat on back of scrapbook paper.

5. Light coat of Mod Podge onto sides of birdhouses, too, for a sturdy stick 😉

6. Use a squeegee or credit card to smooth out any bubbles.

Take a peek at these bad boys un-accessorized:

Now let’s do something about that, shall we? 🙂

We love to distress EVERYTHING.  It drives our mother nuts!  lol

We brushed a light coat of black acrylic paint here & there, all over the birdhouses and touched up any missed spray paint:

Why yes, Kristi IS sporting our interchangeable felt necklace we created and that IS a big, fat diet coke in the background! Sonic is a must when crafting 😉

After distressing the birdhouses, we sprayed the tops with glue and added a gallon bit of glitter. To completely bling out the birdhouses in Halloween digs, we hit up our local Dollar Tree for accessories…

…a brown glittered owl to add to the center of the paper accordion flower, an orange plastic spider got a coat of brown acrylic paint and smothered in gold glitter and we found the cute 4-pack of crows for under $1 with a 40% Michael’s coupon.  We had everything else on hand {you thought we were kidding about our Shanty stash… we weren’t! Hee hee!} so we spent less than $5 on the whole project.  Sweet!

We  how they turned out and added them to Kelli’s Halloween display:

HappHalloween to you all!

We would love to see you on FB or Pinterest 🙂

Thank you for letting us be your guestie today, cute Shanty sisters!

We hope that Miss Whitney is getting much needed R&R…… since we’re also blogging sisters, we know how it is when one of the team is down and that it can get crazy busy- fingers crossed that you can get some R&R too, Ashley! 😉

XOXO

  1. I’m having the same problem, I can’t find unfinished candlesticks holders anywhere, either. Anyone found any recently?

  2. Love these so much! Like Tina, I can’t find unfinished candlesticks anywhere. Not Hobby Lobby, not Michaels, not JoAnn’s. Where did you get yours?

    1. Hi Tina,
      The unfinished candlesticks can usually be found at Michael’s, Joann’s or Hobby Lobby craft stores but a great online site to buy in bulk is craftparts.com. Good luck! 🙂
