Hey friends!

I was recently asked to sample and review Plaid’s Simply Screen DIY Silk Screen Kit.  I decided to make a little something for my newest little man.  I figured I would try a “small” project first!

You guys know our crafting style… Quick, cheap and easy.  I always look for those three things when I try out a new product.  Here are the steps I followed to use Plaid’s Simply Silk Kit.

I started by setting up my light box.  I like that this is the box that the product actually comes in.  It saves on storage when you are finished because you can just throw everything back inside.

A couple simple steps and I had my light box…

You make your own artwork on your computer and print it on standard paper.  You can use any program that allows clip art.  I love wienie dogs, so I printed one out on my printer.  This took only a few minutes and I like that you have the option of anything you can find on your computer.  There are a million free clipart files on the internet, so that is a ton of options.  Plus, you can use any font you have on your computer as well.

Now I just put the screen down over the artwork.  I taped my edges down to hold it in place.

Then I put it in my light box for 25 minutes with the artwork facing DOWN.  I learned the hard way that this is an important detail 😉

After it comes out of the light box you use a sponge in a tray of water (included) to rub off the blue material where your artwork was.  That leaves a blank screen where your artwork is.

Now I placed the screen on my onesie.  This is the part where I think you really need to be careful.  I made sure to secure it with tape down to my onesie.  If the screen moves at all you will have a messy design under it.  I found that it stayed in place great with my tape though.

Then, I just used the included black screen paint over the artwork with a brush.  The kit includes 3 colors, but they have a HUGE selection of colors you can purchase.

This was the result…

I had to get my model to share a few shots as well of course 😉

For me it was a few more steps than I usually do, however I was very pleased with the results.

A few things I love about this product…

You can purchase it at Hobby Lobby with a price of $39.  With a 40% off coupon that is cheapo!

Hobby Lobby carries it online and only charges $3 shipping on your order… Whoop!

I like that you only have to buy the refill papers and paints and not an entire kit… Again use those 40% coupons!

I like that you can reuse the cut screens as much as you want… Just like a stencil.

Let me know if you have any questions about this product… I will do my best to answer them 🙂  Happy Tuesday!
