Hey guys!!

Many of you saw the bed I made for my oldest son a few weeks ago.

Well… It didn’t take 2 days for my girls to decide they wanted new beds too.  I actually saw this as an amazing opportunity to make them beds they can’t stuff junk under! Yeah!

So.. I enlisted the help of my good friend Ana to design me some beds that would grow with my girls.  We found the Fillmore Platform Bed on Pottery Barn Kids and fell in LOVE.  Ana made me some super easy plans and I was off!  These were so easy to build and just wait until you hear the cost!

You can get the plans for this headboard on Ana’s site HERE!!

I’m going to share a few pictures of my build and a few tips I learned along the way.

I used Gorilla Wood Glue for the entire build.  We love this stuff! It’s the best out there.  I also used my Kreg Jig™ a ton on this project!  I can’t say enough about just how awesome this tool is.  It makes your furniture so much easier to assemble, and much sturdier. It also hides all of your screws.  It has become one of my top 5 tools easily.  Get one! You will thank us 😉

I used a scrap piece of wood to help hold the headboard up while I was drilling my pocket holes.  Yes… This is a bit shanty, but worked like a charm 😉

I used oak hardwood plywood for the headboard panel.  I had Lowe’s rip my plywood down to Ana’s specified size.  I made both headboards with 1- 4×8 sheet, and had some good sized scraps left over for later! 🙂  Here it is after I used my Kreg Jig™ to drill my pocket holes.

And here are my sides attached…

And here it is ready for stain!

I was a little concerned it wouldn’t stain evenly with all the different wood, but  I think they turned out great!

I used my very favorite stain to make these beds “tree colored” 😀

Rust-Oleum Premium Wood Stain in Dark Walnut

And here are the results!  Forgive the empty room 🙂 I am building the coordinating goodies for these beds too!

What do you think???

Someone else is a little excited about the height of the new beds.  She can finally climb up on here sisters’ beds without help. 🙂

Now for the fun part!

Pottery Barn charges $400 a pop before shipping for these cuties! That is close to $1000 for the pair.  WOW.  I paid $150 for both!  Woohoo!!

Hope you like them!  I will be back to share some tips on the twin bed.  You can build the twin bed alone for $30!

Make sure to check out the plans for the headboard on Ana’s site HERE!!

We will be back tomorrow with another great giveaway!  This is from one of our very favorite products, so check back with us and get entered to win!

Have a great week!

    1. ????????I built this myself and it turned out so beautifully! SO excited! I used the plans at WoodworkPlans.info to build mine – I highly recommend you visit that website and check their plans out too. They are detailed and super easy to read and understand unlike several others I found online. The amount of plans there is mind-boggling… there’s like 16,000 plans or something like that for tons of different projects. Definitely enough to keep me busy with projects for many more years to come haha

  1. I love the bed and plan on making it. Are you happy with how wide you made the platform? Is it a hazard with kids falling and hitting it? Would you rather have it the dimensions of the mattress to avoid that?

  2. I Am in love with the bedding. Any chance you could tell us where its from ??? Loking for the same look for my daughters room right now.

  3. Just wow, boy do I want a deluxe kreg jig! I have made your little projects and you so inspire mr to take the plunge to the big ones!!

  4. I love them and the bedding. I can’t wait to finish my basement and stick all three my girls in one giant nursery. So fun, and if the weather was warm here so I could build outside or in the garage, I would give you a run for your money…lol, haha, just kidding! C
