Hey guys!  I decided to take a break from building and get back to my bathroom redecorating.  I haven’t done a thing since I painted the walls and added a DIY bathroom frame.  I have been waiting for an idea to come to me for a hand towel hook so when it came…I had to run with it!

hand towel hook

This was so easy and it only took Gorilla Glue wood glue to put it together…no nails or screws!  You can make it in about an hour from start to finish and it is under $5!  That’s my kind of craft:)

wooden blocksI started with a 1×4 (purchase the shortest length you can ~ you will only need about 2 ft).  I cut a piece at 13.5″, 2 @ 3″ and 1 @ 2 3/4″.

wood glueI only used Gorilla Glue wood glue to put this entire piece together!

I attached with wood glueStart by placing a thin line of Gorilla Glue wood glue across the middle of the longest board.

attach with wood glueNext, place one of the 3″ blocks on the glue (this will make the ledge for the mason jar).

two blocks of wood for towelNow, attach the remaining 3″ and 2 3/4″ blocks together with the 2 3/4″ block on the bottom.

Gorilla Glue wood glueAfter everything has dried for about 10 minutes, apply a thin line of Gorilla Glue wood glue to the bottom edge of the longest board and attach the ledge you made in the last step with the 3″ block attached to the longest board.

To finish, I wiped 1 coat of Rust-Oleum Dark Walnut stain over the entire piece.

For the final touches,

I applied Gorilla Glue Epoxy to the bottom of a mason jar (I used enough to puddle at the bottom) and attached it to the top ledge.

robe hookI then added this, simple but cute, robe hook that I purchased at Lowe’s for about $3.

and I have a fresh new look for my bathroom!  On to more guest bath decorating! I’ll be back to share more soon!

If you love my DIY  towel hook, I would so appreciate your pins below;)

Thank you and Happy Monday!

      I built this! But I used a different plan that’s a little better…

I’m obsessed with mine! I built my own using the plans at www. WoodworkPlans.info – highly recommended you check those out too. They are detailed and super easy to read and understand unlike several others I found online. The amount of plans there is mind-boggling… there’s like 16,000 plans or something like that for tons of different projects. Definitely enough to keep me busy with projects for many more years to come haha

Head on over to www. WoodworkPlans.info if you want to learn more – click the pink link above for some more plans! Best of luck on your building adventures!

  1. You are amazing and inspiring. There are so many awesome projects you have done. I want to wake my husband up and get started right now :). I have a dining room set that I bought off of Craigslist several years ago that I just stare at and want to change so badly, but I haven’t had the courage till now. If I start it, maybe I’ll have to send you my pictures to show you what an inspiration you are. Thanks for the great site!

  2. This is just adorable!! I have always been fascinated by DIY projects, but your site is the first one that’s actually inspired me to try something. This is such a perfect first wood project as it only uses glue. If I can somehow accomplish the distressing thing do you think I could use it on this project? Or should I stick to staining?

    1. Thank you Nicole! You could definitely use the distressing technique with this and I think it would look great! I wanted to actually paint this but I needed it stained for the bathroom it was going in so stain it was:). Good luck and please send us pictures when you finish!!

  3. Your bathroom towel rack/hook is simple yet sophisticated. I love the fact you made it in an hour!

  4. too cute, way smart thinking Ladies. what did you use to attach it to the wall, in my house I’d have to find a stud and put a long screw in, to much traffic in our hall bath

    1. Hi, Rhoni,
Thanks so much! I should have added that. I used a saw tooth hanger on the back and anchored a screw. It does move a little so I might go back and drive a screw through the back board and anchor that as well!

  6. How in the world to you ladies come up with all of these creative things? I am making one of these ASAP!! So cute!!!

      1. The best part of finding this site is how your tastes are so similar to mine. I live in Mesquite. I believe I remember ya’ll are in this area? Ever consider building some of this stuff and taking it to Canton and selling it?

  7. I LOVE this and think you are just brilliant with wood 🙂

Thank you for inspiring me to be more creative when it comes to utilizing Lowes or Home Depot for their wood-never feel confident enough to try somthing like your wall hooks!

Does the Gorilla Glue really work and stay put for long term? I’ve heard great things but never tried it myself.

Heading off to do some therapeutic DIYings, perhaps with a bit of wood this time? Thanks for the post, you rock!

    1. Thank you so much Megan! Gorilla glue actually is amazing stuff! After it dries it is VERY hard and sometimes impossible to pull the pieces apart. When I have had to in the past it always ruins the wood if I do get them separated! Hope this helps:). Happy DIY’ing:))

    2. Gorilla Glue is amazing! My sweet hubby built me a coffee table out of reclaimed wood beams, and joined it together entirely with Gorilla Glue. That was over four years ago, and so far it hasn’t budged… Even with three kiddos that regularly turn it into a stage/climbing wall/jumping off point! I would DEFINITELY trust it to hold my towels! 🙂
