Hey friends!

I am back today to share a quick tutorial on how I made my simple and oh so cheap tags for my mini planter boxes!

I made these in just a few minutes, and I can think of a ton of places where they would be super cute!

For my wood I used a 1/4″ x 2′ piece of wood that was 4′ long from Lowe’s.  I used oak because I knew it would stain pretty and it was about $2.50 for the whole piece.

I cut 5 tags that were each 3″ long.  You can cut yours longer or shorter depending on what you are making them for!  I could have made 11-12 tags from the 1 $2.50 piece of wood… Whoooop!

I used my drill to put a small hole in the top of each tag like this…

Next, I gave them all a quick coat of my NEW favorite…

I love how dark and pretty this stain is!

I used my Silhouette machine to cut my stencils.  You can also make your own, or buy them from a craft store.  I used the Engravers font for mine.  I like to use the number part to position first, and then lay the actual stencil on top of it!  I just used regular card stock to cut mine.

I used off white acrylic paint for the numbers.  I also like to use a stencil brush and dab up and down rather than side to side.  This keeps the paint from running under the stencil.

I love the results…

Pretty darn easy, huh??

To attach them to my planter boxes I used some twine from the craft store.  I wrapped it 5 times around each box and then attached the tags by adding a bow.

That’s it!  Super cheap, easy and adds a ton of cute to any project!

I built my own using the plans at www. WoodworkPlans.info – highly recommended you check those out too. They are detailed and super easy to read and understand unlike several others I found online. The amount of plans there is mind-boggling… there’s like 16,000 plans or something like that for tons of different projects. Definitely enough to keep me busy with projects for many more years to come haha

  2. These would be awesome as table numbers at a wedding or other special occasion. Also luv the chalkboard paint idea, cute way to leave lil msgs to yr hubby in the house. Even a chunky gift tag for a present wrapped in brown paper & twine. Luv them. P.S. does anyone know if this stain is available in Australia??? Or equivalent???

  3. These are so cute, Whitney! I think I might do some and paint with chalkboard paint! Thanks so much for sharing!

  4. These look great! Thank you for showing how you made them. That Kona stain is very pretty-I’m going to try that instead of my standard Mission Oak for my next project!
