Hey there!  It hasn’t been that long since I shared that we have started building our new home and BOY have we been making progress!  If you missed the first post you can check it out HERE!

I’ve been busy making decisions on finish-out products and I can’t wait to share the fun products that I have picked!  That is soon to come but here’s what we’ve been up to and a few of my favorite spots so far 🙂

FoundationFoundation has been poured!

Master-ShowerThe Master Bathroom is one of my favorites!

WallsWe have started framing…actually feels somewhat real with exterior walls!

FireplaceI’m really excited about my open kitchen that looks out into the living room!  (I’ll be able to keep a close eye on our little monster while I’m doing dishes ;))

shopFour years ago I wouldn’t have dreamed (nor my hubs) that one of my favorite spots in my home would be a shop but Wahoo!  Lot’s of room for more projects :)…I might spare a little corner for him 😉

Front-ViewHere is the front view of the house with the sheathing!  Now it’s really feeling like a home!

Back-ViewHere is the back view of the house.  I’m super excited about all of the windows too…can’t wait to decorate them!

So, that’s it for now.  We have the first floor completely framed and we should have the second floor done pretty soon!

I’ll be back soon with more updates!  What is your favorite part of your home?

  1. Hello!

It’s refreshing to see your craftiness! I love your home it’s going to look wonderful. I live in Georgia! My husband and I are looking to build as well starting in 2015. So, I have just a few questions for you. So many friends discouraged us to build and recommended buying a foreclosure. I mean I see their point but I want to build because it gives my family just what we want!

1.Who drew up your blueprints? I have a floor plan from a home we looked at it was just what we wanted. Unfortunately, they were condos and there was no front or backyard. I have 2 children!

    2. Are you building from scratch or in a subdivision with their builder? We were fortunate enough to find a subdivision that was foreclosed on with only 2 house built in a 30 lot community. Most of the lots sit on an acre and go for under $30,000. So, basically we could build what we want!

    3. What do you suggest? I was told by many people who have built their homes. That when a contractor gives you a bid on the jobs required. That you should ask for itemize cost and supplies. Then by the supplies yourself.

Thank you so much for all that you do for the DIH (do it herselfers) You’ve really empowered me!!!

    1. Hi! Congratulations! Ok, I hope I can answer all of your questions but if I kids one please write again. I think it is personal preference, availability and timing as far as build or buy a foreclosure. We looked at that option but it does take time to look and we tried many years ago and ran into black mold issues that we didn’t want to get into. I think both options are great though.
The build has been very exciting and also very time consuming. We are lucky enough to have my step dad building our home so he is 100% on our side and wants the absolute best for us. That being said, I now realize I could NEVER GC my own home! There are so many variables to the construction process and he catches everything.
I would not get a list of supplies and get them on your own. That would really be a headache as far as finding the items having them there when necessary etc. My suggestion is to wait on upgrades. That’s where they really tack on the dollars. If there are things you can upgrade yourself after you move in then that’s the way I would do it.
      Hope this helps!

  4. So cool! We are right at the same stage. The main floor is framed, and this week it will be going up to the second story. It’s so exciting to see it all go from paper to real life. And I’m right there with you on the decision making stress. But, what I’ve been telling people is, at least it’s happy stress. Nobody is sick, life is good, we can handle having to pick hardware and finishes. Love the updates.

  5. Oh my gosh! This is going to be sooo cool 🙂 That’s so great that you planned ahead for a shop. You would love my pole barn house! I can step out into my “garage” aka the farm shop and do whatever my heart desires! We have so much room. Can’t wait to see more pictures!!

    1. Thank you Mckenzie! It was strange choosing plans that I only saw in 1 dimension but that’s what stuck out to me with this plan. It does have a lot of dimensions to it even in 1D… So far I’m very happy with the layout 🙂

  6. I know you excited this way can see progress going on,one thing make sure they put in enough electric receptables & where you want them we built years ago forgot put in 2 closets & can’t see that well. Look’s like going be gorgeous

    1. Thank you for the advice! It’s crazy, you don’t realize how many decisions have to be made and I can totally understand how that would be over-looked! I will definitely double check that now:) Thanks!

  7. oh my so jealous, so exciting building your own home, and seeing it go up from the bottom up…. I wish as a Realtor every home owner could see their home going up from the bottom, they would understand the workings of their home a lot better— I am new to following you, so I am not sure where you are located, ie. which state. It looks like you are not having a basement right? Cant’ wait to see your finished home, and then all your decorating
so many decisions to make. Very jealous here.

    1. Thank you so much Edith! We are in Texas so no basement. I see so many awesome basements and I would LOVE one:) We have attics only! Thanks so much for joining us. We are happy to have you 🙂

  8. It looks great! How awesome that you will have a shop! we are going through the same process right now. Only 7 weeks to go. (Feels like forever)

      1. We have all the interior and exterior walls up (framing on the interior, not drywall yet) and plumbing and electricity run. Shingles on the roof are getting finished up. Door and windows going in next. Good luck! It’s a lot of fun, but also kind of stressful. We’ve been moving between family and a temporary apartment for about a year since we sold our last house. Not super fun with very small kids, but it will be worth it! 🙂

  9. It’s looking good!! I bet you’re getting excited! My favorite place in my home is the screened in porch! It’s huge and the perfect place to hang out in the fall and spring 🙂

  10. It is going to be SO beautiful!! LOVE that you will have your own shop!! Super jealous!! 🙂
