After cutting the printable out, I cut a 2 x 12 piece of wood from Home Depot to 9″.  I had a scrap piece, so this part was free! 🙂

Next, I stained the whole thing with Varathane stain in my very fav color… Carrington!  Staining is so simple… Just brush it on, and wipe it off a few minutes later!

After it was dry, I used my Ryobi Corner Cat sander to distress the whole thing!  I just used a 120-grit sandpaper on the sander to take off the stain on the corners and edges.  I love the look it gives the wood!

I used a few furniture tacks in each of my corners to hold it down.  I find these at Home Depot or any craft store!  I attached the meal using the same method I used on my $3 DIY photo frames at Christmas time.  You can see that post HERE!

Here’s a few shots of it all finished up!

  1. Thanks for the great tutorial and printable! I made this for my my sons girlfriend’s grandmother and she loved it! I made a gift basket up of different coffees a new coffee maker for her and included the sign. Here’s a picture of how it turned out! I used a flat canvas instead of the wood and then I distressed and inked the sides. Dressed it up with some embellishments and a pretty bow and dyed the lace in the same color ink that I used to distress the sides of The printable and used modge podge to seal! Super easy and cheap gift to give and it was fun to make. Thanks!

  2. I just saw your Christmas picture holders. Are those clips that you used the 7 gypsies brand with the red tips. Did you spray paint them black on the tips? I can only find the ones with the red tips

  3. Made this last night! I think I made the bow a little too big, hehe but I can fix that! Love having scrap pieces ready for your awesome posts!

  4. great job!! I think it would look cute, too, with some coffee beans (spray sealed, maybe) randomly glued to it… like a few together on a side, and then loose single ones here and there. just an idea.
