Happy Wednesday friends!  I am SO, SO pumped with the way this project turned out!  I just happen to be in the middle of a room revamp for my littlest girl, and I had the perfect wall to ‘play’ with!  Check out how it turned out!

Board and Batten Tutorial

First, let’s talk about how simple this project is….  We literally used just a couple boards and a piece of trim, and the rest of the wall is made with boards we had ripped from a full sheet of MDF we had Home Depot cut down for us.

We used two tools for the whole thing… A saw, nailer and stapler.

I had my entire wall done and ready to paint in under a couple hours.

Now let’s talk cost… The cost of wood for this wall was under $70.  YUP.  That’s a WHOLE lot of bang for very little buck.

And… For those of you that may ask, I used Sherwin-Williams paint for the whole room.  Here are the colors I went with!

Thanks so much guys!

  1. This page used to have all the measurements of the board you used but it no longer does. The link to the tutorial leads you to a different project.
I did this project in a different house and want to redo it in my new house but I can’t remember the dimensions of the boards. Please help!

  2. I specifically want to know the wood buildup used for the header of the board and batten wall in the Ellyot room but this post links to a different board and batten tutorial that doesn’t use the same wood build up. I want to know what wood us used as the top piece in the above picture. Thanks!

  3. So I just did board and batten MDF in our foyer/entryway and my husband thought we should use semi gloss white to match the current wainscoting and trim in the house. Do you prefer gloss, flat or matte?

  4. LOVE the Wall!! I have one quick question…. how did you blend the board coming down with the existing molding at the floor? The top of that molding on the floor ( similar to mine) is maybe 1/4 – 1/2 inch deep at the top…. how does the new board coming down not sit out further than that?

  5. Hi! This is beautiful! 2 questions! What kind of base board did you use? And did you paint the moulding to match?

  6. Not only is the board and batten amazing, but the color combination in this room is a-MAZING !

  7. Was the wall flat or textured? I’m going to be doing board and batten in my hallways and it’s medium textured. If this wall was also then that may not be something I need to worry about cause it looks amazing!

  8. I would love to win this! I am new to the woodworking game. I have completed a garden bench and have a chicken coop in progress (with a lot of help from my dad). Love your site and all the building ideas!!
