Hey friends!  For those of you that follow us on social media, you have seen the changes I am making in my house right now.  I am LOVING every update.  We bought this home 6 years ago and opted to go with stained concrete for price and durability with all the kiddos.  I did love lots of things about the stained concrete, but there were other qualities about it that I couldn’t stand.  Mostly, I felt that mine always looked dirty and dark.  So, I started thinking about how I could update it and keep the same durability now that I have added 2 more kids to the mix 🙂

I teamed up with one of my favorite brands for these projects.  For those of you that haven’t heard of the goodness that is The Tile Shop, you must go check them out.  They really do have the most amazing selection of tile out there.

Tile Shop is a nationwide and online company.  I live in the middle of Dallas/Ft. Worth area and made all of my selections at their Southlake store.

I decided to update all of my living spaces with faux wood tile. It’s a ceramic tile that resembles faux wood.  I used Cottage Grey Faux Wood tile from The Tile Shop for my kitchen, living room, entry, laundry room and powder bath.  The stuff is so amazing.  It even has nail heads in the corners that have the texture and finish of real nail heads.

I am so amazed at how much it has brightened up our home…

I outlined my dining room with the same faux wood tile, and used a square travertine tile in the middle… You can see this shot of my dining room here photobombed by my son’s tractor 🙂

My latest update has been my son’s room and bathroom as well as our powder bath.  You guys.  I am so so happy about how these spaces are shaping up.  After installing the brick wall in his room, I decided to go with a dark grey, black slate tile for the floors.  Here they are ready for grout!

I love the combo with the brick!  Excuse our mess here… My installers are still finishing up!

His room doubles as a guest room when we have family in town, and his bathroom serves as a guest bath too.  I wanted to brighten the space up, so I opted for the most awesome marble tile.  I am SO HAPPY with the progress.  For the walls I used Hampton Carrara Pillowed subway tile.  You can find it HERE at the Tile shop.

I used Hampton Carrara Polished Barnes as a border of the shower and chair rail.  I love how it fancies up the edge so much!

I still have to get the whole space grouted, paint the walls, get the plumbing in place and build the new vanity, buttttttt I love the direction it’s all going!  And my son not having a sink is my motivation to get er done quick 😉

Now let’s talk about my powder bath!  I have a small powder bath in the hallway with a pocket door.  I removed the vanity that was in that bathroom and decided to put a feature tile wall behind that space.  I plan to build a really cool rustic console vanity, so I wanted to go with a tile that would contrast that rustic look well and look what I chose… LOVE.

It’s a harlequin marble tile also from The Tile Shop

Thanks so much for stopping by guys!  Let me know if you have any product questions at all.  I can’t wait to share these spaces all finished up and all the new furniture I’m building for them!

I used the plans at www. WoodworkPlans.info for this project because they are much better – highly recommended you check those out too – it’s just a much better plan. They are detailed and super easy to read and understand unlike several others I found online. The amount of plans there is mind-boggling… there’s like 16,000 plans or something like that for tons of different projects. Definitely enough to keep me busy with projects for many more years to come haha?

  2. I realize this post isn’t lighting-related, but could you please share the names/sources of the light fixtures in photos 5 and 8? Thank you!

P.S. In my dreams my house resembles yours! 😉

  3. absolutely love the faux wood tile. I’m thinking about bathroom shower. I know you purchased from the tile shop but could you tell me the manufacture please. My in-laws own a flooring company but they have never seen this particular tile. TIA

  4. Absolutely beautiful, i especially love the dining room and living room, entryway. II’ll bet they love you at The Tile Shop, lol. Do you mind if I ask how much it was for the faux wood tile per square foot ? I would love to add this to my kitchen floor. Thanks, i can’t wait to see it all finished. D.

  5. I need you to hurry and finish that bathroom with the Hampton subway tile STAT!!! Hee hee. :). A couple days before you posted this we had just selected that tile and we have made several pieces from your website! So needless to say we love your style! And I’m trying to find something for our vanity in the bathroom we are using that tile in. I will check back often! Thanks for the great ideas!

  6. My lady wife found your site on Pinterest and convinced me to make her the DIY Farmhouse Table and Bench as part of our great room renovation. I now have the carpentry bug and I’ve found several projects here that I’m interested in pursuing. I jut wanted to thank you for the inspiration and confidence you have given me to pursue a hobby that I might not have done otherwise.

    1. That’s so awesome to hear Rob! It’s totally our goal here :-). Kind of addicting, right? Keep up the good work! You have a lucky wife and thanks for taking the time to send a nice message

      1. Well, I got a new Ryobi brad nailer out of the deal, so I’m the lucky one. :). Do you post pictures when other people complete projects they found on your site? I’d love to crow about this one if it looks decent…

  7. I’ve been eyeing this tile for some time, I LOVE the color! My husband was concerned about what scratches and dings would look like, though. What do you think? Are they noticeable? We’ve got dogs that love to run and chase each other and the floors always seem to be scratched.

  8. I’ve been looking at faux wood tiles since my house is grand central for all my kids as well as their kids. I do have concerns. though… Walking on cold tile, does it scream ‘I’m fake’? Since the tiles are all the same length, does it make it look less real? Do you lose the patina you get from the real deal?

    1. I do think that some wood tile looks unrealistic. I will say, nearly every person that walks into my home for the first time comments on it and reaches down to feel it once I say it’s tile. They can’t believe it. I had concrete prior to this, so the cold really doesn’t bother me, but under tile heating can be installed which lots of people love. Hope that helps!

  9. Oh WOW!!! I LOVE all your new choices and can’t wait to see the rooms finished… and all the furniture you’re building for them!! The wood tile you did is just the most beautiful thing I have ever seen with those faux nails…just gorgeous!!

    1. Can you please tell me whAt color and brand you used for your stained concrete. We love the faux wood tile but can’t afford it. Please please
