Hey friends!  I am SO pumped about how this next space has come together.  I have a small powder room in my hall with a pocket door.  For years I have wanted to dress it up a bit.  It’s a dark space because because I don’t get any natural light, so I wanted to lighten it up a bit.  Check out my new DIY Bathroom Vanity!

Now, before I get started, I will say that this was the most impossible project to photograph.  It’s a small room, and as badly as I wanted to be able to show you the whole wall in one shot, I couldn’t scoot back enough.  Here is a shot of the top of the wall.  I will share about where I found all the goodies later in this post!

Ok… Let’s get started!  This is a SIMPLE build.  I had the whole thing done and painted in one afternoon.  As always, I will walk you through the whole thing here, and you can also download and print the FREE plans by clicking HERE or the button below!

First thing first.  The sink top.  I wanted to build a vanity off of a sink top that you can easily get.  I LOVE this sink top.  I love that it doubles as a countertop.  I love the size of it.  I think it’s a perfect mix of traditional and modern style and it’s so easy to clean which makes my mom heart happy 😉  I found the sink HERE at Home Depot.  It’s a Kohler sink top, and I ordered the biscuit finish to match my other stuff in the bathroom.  I will be sharing another vanity plan after Christmas that uses this same sink top.

My first step was cutting and building the 4 legs of the vanity.  I used 1×3 pine boards for this part.  You can see where I made my pocket holes on each.  I used my K5 Kreg Jig for the part.  If you are considering purchasing a Kreg Jig and can’t decide on the model, this is our fav even if it’s your first Kreg Jig.  You won’t ever outgrow this one.

These are 3/4″ pocket holes and I attached them using 1.25″ pocket hole screws.

Next, I built 2 side frames.  This is two of the legs joined by two pieces of wood.  I made 3/4″ pocket holes and joined again using 1.25″ pocket hole screws.

Next, I put a piece of 1/2″ Purebond Plywood into each of these side frames.  You can have Home Depot rip the hardwood plywood down to the right size.  I used birch for this project.  I used Titebond III wood glue and 1″ brad or finish nails to attach these pieces to the side frames.

Next, I attached both side frames with two more boards in the front and two in the back to create the box of the vanity.  I used the same size pocket holes and screws on this part.

You will also attach the bottom shelf on this part.  This is also a piece of 1/2″ hardwood plywood.  I actually opted to use 3/4″ because I had a scrap piece that was large enough.

Here is the “box” ready for trim and a door!

Building the vanity

You can see in this shot how the top comes together…

I used a very small pine moulding around the top of the vanity to dress it up a bit.  I used wood glue and 1″ brad nails to attach it.  Each corner is miter cut at a 45˚ angle.

Trim top of vanity

After the trim was done I built the door.  This uses 3 pieces of wood.  You will rip down the middle piece to get the exact size you need.   I attached all three boards using 3/4″ pocket holes ad 1.25″ pocket hole screws.

That’s it for the build!  I left the back open to allow room for the plumbing.

I chose to paint mine with Sherwin-Williams Amazing Grey.  LOVE this color.  It’s such a versatile grey… Not too light, not too dark.  I used my Corner Cat sander to distress mine a bunch after the paint dried.

I found all of my hardware at Home Depot as well.  I found the hinges in brass and spray painted them black to match the pull.

To attach the sink, I used a line of caulk around the top of the vanity and set the sink in place.

I worked with Moen on all of the fixtures and I cannot be happier with them.  That amazing faucet is a Moen Waterhill 8″ widespread faucet.

I also used the matching Waterhill robe hook as a hand towel holder….

The light… Oh the light.  I LOVE it too.  I found it on Wayfair.com.

Moving on… The tile!  The wall is tiled in the most amazing marble tile from The Tile Shop!  It’s called Hampton Polished Arabesque Marble Mosaic Tile.  The flooring is also from The Tile Shop.  It’s called Cottage Grey Faux Wood tile.

I built the mirror and will be sharing plans for it soon.  I also did this free printable I will be sharing soon!
