So, I took the original plans and added height to the headboard in order to be able to add the light. The light was originally a hard-wired outdoor fixture, which I fitted with a cord and altered to include a pull-chain. I wanted the headboard high enough so that when my three year old is older, he can sit up in bed and read. I also planed and stacked 2 x 4’s so that the legs would be thicker. Finish is Minwax Jacobean with Minwax Fast-Drying Satin Finish Poly. This bed took FOREVER to complete. Started this summer, but with a (then) two year old, it involved drilling a pocket hole, then going for a bike ride around the block, and continuing the cycle OVER AND OVER. Finally finished over the Christmas break, as there was a lot of traveling done in the last six months. Oh, and yes…that is the Kentwood Bookcase in the room too!
