Good morning! I actually wasn’t real sure what to call this project… So I went with the obvious. It’s wood and it’s a box 🙂 I actually built this back in November and filled it with pumpkins and vines, and then filled it with birch logs and pine cones over Winter. Now it’s filled with succulents… My fav! I love that you can change it’s decor over the seasons making it a very evergreen centerpiece! Check out my DIY Wood Box Centerpiece!
How cute? This is a really simple project! The supplies cost me under $15 which makes it even cuter, right? Here’s what you need!
Supply List
1 – 1x10x6 pine, white wood or common board
1 – 1x3x6 pine, white wood or common board
4′ of rope
Here we go!
I started by making my cuts. The sides and bottom of this box are made with the 1x1o board. I cut one long piece for the base at 30″ and two shorter pieces for the sides at 13″.
The 1×3 board will create the small sides to keep stuff in the box. I cut two of these at 31.5″ .
Next, I used my miter saw to cut the top corners on my 1×10 sides.
Here you can see where I made my cuts. These don’t have to be exact, as long as they are the same on both boards.
Once those were cut, I clamped the two sides together to drill my holes for the rope.
I used a 1/2″ Ryobi drill bit from my set to create the hole.
Next, I wood glued and nailed those sides to the longer 1×12 board. I used my Ryobi Airstrike 18g brad nailer with 1.25″ brad nails on this part.
My final step was adding wood glue to my long 1×2 boards and attaching them to each side with the brad nailer.
That’s it for assembly! I decided to use our Vaseline distressing method to finish mine. You can see a quick video HERE or below of how easy it is! You can also see the full tutorial HERE!
I used a combination of Varathane stain in dark walnut, and a latex paint color by Sherwin-Williams color called Anonymous. Perfect combo! I tied a knot at each end of my rope and I was done!
Here she is all filled up with succulents I found at Home Depot!
What angle did you use? I’m having trouble getting it correct. I did 22.5 on both sides and the sides
look off.
One more question, where did you get your Gather template for the wicker chalkboard in the background?
Are the succulents artificial? If so, where did you buy them? Love this!!
They are real and I found them at Home Depot 🙂
Wow! That’s awesome! Sometimes they don’t do well indoors. Do you have soil & rocks in your pots?
Soil and some have rocks. The rocks seem to do the best!
Beautiful As Always 🙂
Where did you get the table runner?
Thank you!
Love this project! Love your light fixture, too! Do you mind sharing where you found it? Thanks!
super awesome, I love your entire kitchen nook!
I love it! I can imagine a hanging version would be beautiful, too. =)
