Maybe you’re a bit like me, and think… A garage door opener. Yeah. When our friends at Ryobi asked me to try out their new garage door opener, I quickly agreed, but it wasn’t something I was waiting on pins and needles for to arrive. It’s a garage door opener. How cool can it really be, right? That all changed when I had this bad boy installed. I can now easily say that this is one of my very FAV new tools in my shop. It seriously makes me so happy! Let me show it to you…
I had a nice guy from Home Depot do the installation for me. I am capable of many things, but installing a garage door isn’t in my wheelhouse, especially when they did it for around $100 in a few hours. Once he finished, the opener was a basic box with little doors all around it.
This is where the fun starts…. All the modules! Each one of the little grey squares covers an opening where you can attach and activate a module.
I will start with my favorite! (This is also my hubby’s favorite) The extension cord reel! This is a cord reel that plugs into the side of the opener into two of the modules, and the best part? It’s 30ft long! I can pull it halfway out my driveway, and it easily retracts back up into place. And for you short folks (I’m 5′ 2″), they have equipped it with a little plastic adjustment ball so you can adjust how much of the cord hangs down when not in use.
I pushed mine up about a foot so I can reach it easily when I need to pull it down.
You can see the cord reel module here in place ready to go!
Moving on to my next fav… The Bluetooth speaker module with hands-free calling… Yes, please!
Like all of the modules, these easily attach by removing the little door and clicking them into place.
I like live stream music on Amazon from my phone while I build, and now this is how I listen to it. When my phone rings I can answer and talk hands free! I kept calling people when I first installed it just to try it out… Love it. 😉
The next module I attached was the fan. I’m sure this will become a favorite when it’s 20 degrees warmer in about a month or so. Boo. I attached it to the other side just above my workbench.
The final module I have attached to my opener is the parking sensor. I don’t park much in my garage, but do when it storms. I now can do that with the sensor and not run into the garage wall (which has happened a time or six) It has laser lights that help you park in the perfect spot!
I’m still waiting on the carbon monoxide detector module to arrive. It will notify you when CO levels are high. Smart and super handy.
Another amazing feature of this opener is the backup battery. This box is located on the other side of the opener. You just place one of your Ryobi batteries into the port and it will open and operate your garage door opener even if the power is out. So awesome!
And the final cool feature is the light. What a difference from my old opener! It’s LED and bright and I love that it senses when I walk in the garage and turns on automatically. It keeps me from having to turn all of the lights on when I’m going in and out… Amazing.
The opener comes with an optional keypad to attach on the outside of the garage.
It also comes with 2 remotes for the car and a keypad for inside the garage wall to open the door and activate or deactivate any of the modules.
So, have I made you a believer? I really have never been more impressed with a tool. And, I love that you can purchase the modules separately to fit the needs of your space. You may not need a parking sensor, but the speaker is calling your name. Totally customizable.
And because they are amazing, our friends at Ryobi are letting us give two of these garage door openers away with two modules! How do you win?? We are giving you 4 very simple ways! Just click the link below to get entered!
Good luck friends! Winners will be announced on this post in a few days!
