Hey guys! Happy Wednesday! Ash and I are back today sharing one of my fav simple projects. I built this FOREVER ago, and decided to share it as free plans and a video tutorial. Check out our DIY Farmhouse Storage Mirror!
Before I walk you through this, be sure to check out our YouTube video HERE where we show you how we built the whole thing!
Also, be sure to download and print the FREE PLANS to build the mirror HERE!
You will start with a plywood or hardwood plywood board. This will serve as the back of the mirror, and everything attaches to it. You can have the hardware store cut it to size for you, or you can cut it yourself. We have a video on How To Rip Plywood HERE!
Start by attaching the bottom board that will serve as the base of the storage box. We added 3/4″ pocket holes down one long side and 2 on each short end.
We are using our Kreg Jig K5 to make the pocket holes. You can find our favorite model HERE on Amazon!
Attach the board to the base of the plywood using wood glue and 1.25″ pocket hole screws through the holes on the long end and into the plywood.
Now attach the small ends. These will form the outline of your box. These will also attach with wood glue and 1.25″ pocket hole screws.
To form the front of the box, add a line of wood glue to the front of those 3 boards and attach the board to them using 1.25″ brad or finish nails.
Time to add the 1×2 trim on the outsides. Attach the sides first. Be sure to add wood glue to all of your joints and attach the boards using 1.25″ brad or finish nails.
Now attach the top piece the same way with wood glue and brad or finish nails.
The decorative trim we are using is 1.25″ wide and 1/4″ thick. You can find lots of options in this size at the hardware store. Just pick one that fits the style you are looking for and you’re set.
Attach the sides first and then the top piece. The tops of the side pieces will be mitered at a 45˚ angle, and the bottom of those pieces will be straight. Both ends of the top pieces will be mitered at a 45˚ angle.
At this point you are done with assembly and ready for finish. We used Varathane stain in Ash to finish ours, but you can paint it as well. Let that dry completely before attaching the mirror with mirror adhesive.
Once that dried we added our hardware. I found the cutest metal labels on Amazon super cheap. You can find them HERE! We attached 5 to the bottom of the mirror to shanty it up a bit 😉
This is a basic beveled 20″x24″ wall mirror found at the hardware store. You can see the exact one I used HERE!
We used mirror adhesive from the hardware store to attach the mirror to the wood. You can also find it HERE on Amazon! We wanted to be sure everything stayed in place!
Once your adhesive dries, you are ready to hang it up. Every wall is different, so be sure to hang it safely. I chose to use picture frame wire on an anchor to mount mine, but choose the best application for your space. Here it is all finished up!
Thanks so much for stopping by guys! We would LOVE for you to share these plans and our video with your peeps! Have a happy Wednesday and let us know if you have any questions at all!
