How to Build a DIY Modern Farmhouse Console Table

Supplies:

Tools:

Building the Table Base

Step 1:

Cut the legs and runners to size. Drill 1 1/2″ pocket holes at both ends of the long runner.

I’m using the Kreg Foreman for this build. This is a great pocket hole tool if you are building to sell or build a lot of furniture because it creates pocket holes fast. If you’re building for your own home we recommend our favorite Kreg Jig, which is less than half the price and will do the exact same job. Kreg just launched a new and improved Kreg Jig and it is AMAZING! I shared all about it on our Instagram stories here!

Attach a leg to each end of the long runner with 2 1/2″ pocket hole screws and wood glue

Step 2:

Drill 1 1/2″ pocket holes at both ends of the short runners. Center them on the long runner and attach them with 2 1/2″ pocket hole screws and wood glue.

Step 3:

Attach the front and back legs to the short runners with 2 1/2″ pocket hole screws and wood glue.

Building the Table Top

Step 1:

Cut the plank boards to size and drill 1 1/2″ pocket holes according to the cut list. Attach the planks together with 2 1/2″ pocket hole screws.

Step 2:

Center the base on top of the planks and attach the legs to the planks with 2 1/2″ pocket hole screws and wood glue.

Adding the Trim

Step 1:

Flip the table right-side-up. Measure and cut the short trim pieces to size and drill 1 1/2″ pocket holes on the square ends of each trim piece. Attach them to the table top and legs with 2 1/2″ pocket hole screws and wood glue. The top of the trim pieces should be flush with the top of the legs and table top planks.

Step 2:

Measure and cut the long trim pieces to size and drill 1 1/2″ pocket holes at the square ends. Attach them to the table top and legs with 2 1/2″ pocket hole screws and wood glue. Use 2″ brad nails to attach the corners together.

The Finish

Step 1:

For the finish, I combined 2 parts Minwax wood finish in Golden Oak with 1 part Classic Gray.

Sand the table down, add a finish and you’re done!
