Hi all! This is Ashley! A little about myself: Whitney has always forced my hand into new hobbies, and although I moan and groan about my lack of time, I always give in and quickly become addicted! Our latest venture – making our new houses our homes! My family also recently moved into a new house with more square footage than our previous home. Although the extra space is wonderful I am challenged to fill the space on a budget! Oh how fun that has turned out to be! Craigslist has become my favorite place to “shop” as well as a little antique store downtown and of course hand-me-downs are always welcome! I love knowing that I turned someones trash into my treasure! I hope you all enjoy our projects that we share and any and all suggestions are welcome!

My first project I want to share is one of my favorites! I bought this hutch on Craigslist at a price I couldn’t pass up. Unfortunately I don’t have a before picture but this was just a plain white hutch with a butcher block table top and unfinished wood knobs. I painted it with about 3 or 4 coats of black eggshell (that was a beating!) distressed all of the edges and purchased knobs from Hobby Lobby to dress it up a little. By the way, knobs are my favorite way to dress a “project” and Hobby Lobby has the greatest selection! After all the blood, sweat and tears I now have an original piece to show off nick nacks (still working on the nick nacks) and I saved money doing it myself. It’s so rewarding to see potential in a shanty piece and bring it back to life! I will be posting this on Twice Remembered for her Make Your Monday. Check it out and be inspired!! http://twiceremembered.blogspot.com/2009/08/make-your-monday-week-4-add-your-link.html

  1. Fantastic hutch. I just know it looks better in black. Great to meet you and your sister. My sister Victoria and I blog together also.

Love the Hobby Lobby knobs too. Just perfect.

  2. Oh, my that turned out great! I love the distressed edges and the finish. You are right – Hobby Lobby has the best knobs, don't they?! You are going to have a lot of fun decorating this piece, for sure!
