I am so excited to be guest posting here with the Shanty Sisters! Whit, Ash, and I go waaaay back in blogworld. Like 4 whole years! That’s why I can call them “Whit” and “Ash”, because we’re close like that. 🙂

Haven 2013

I just got to spend some time with the Shanty Sisters in Utah this past week at the SNAP conference. A bunch of us stayed up late talking on Friday night, sharing a little more than we probably needed to. Let’s just say that I found out some things about Whit and Ash that I would have never imagined. And they may have gotten to know more about me than they wanted to as well. #mactruck

But there was a TON of laughter…ya know, the kind that makes your face hurt ’cause you are laughing so much? Yeah, I love that kind.

Any whooooo…

Since the girls are traveling around the world for the next couple of weeks, they asked me to share a project with you.

I decided to share a project that I recently completed in my home, and I am super excited about!

My New Craft Closet!

Here is what it looked like before…

It was a dumping ground for all of my stuff! Ugh.

This closet sits in a 11×11 room that I am turning into my home office. I started the renovation of this room with the closet.

It all started with taking everything out of the closet and removing the header.

Cy helped me with this part. I wanted to open up the closet so it was easier to reach the top shelf and so it wouldn’t look so much like, well…. a closet. Smile

Eventually, we are going to pull up all of the old carpet in this room, so we decided to go ahead and remove the carpet from our closet before we built our shelves.

Eli helped with the clean up.

Next, I painted the closet the same color as the rest of the room. It is called Natural Choice by Sherwin Williams, but I always have them color match it at Lowe’s and use Valspar.

We went to Lowe’s to buy the shelving, peg board, corbels, and more. I also got some of the organizing supplies at IKEA.

I love how bright and cheerful this space is now!

I especially love my new Edison light that we hung in the closet…

I share all the details of how we created this space on my blog.

You can read about it HERE.

It was a pretty amazing transformation! Now I just need to finish the rest of the office!

I would love for you to follow along as I renovate the rest of this room!

  1. This is really a great job you did here! The blue and white contrast is really very eye-catching and adds more spice to the space. Those baskets are also marvelous and very functional. His is really a very inspiring work. Thanks for sharing this post.

  2. I would caution removing a header unless you are certain the wall is not load bearing. The header is there for a reason, to redistribute the load the studs would normally carry from above (the roof or second floor, etc). Otherwise, its a great project!
