How to Build a DIY Farmhouse Dining Table
I am sooooo excited to share the newest Ana White plans with you guys today! This is my very favorite build yet!
I have been in serious need for a hardwood outdoor table to seat my family of 7. Â When we stumbled upon a beautiful, long farmhouse table from Anthropologie, I knew it was love at first sight.
Everything was perfect about this rustic dining table, except that $2,000 price tag. Ouch! That hurts to even write. Â But… I knew who to call to help me make my own at a very small fraction of that cost!
Here is our knock off version…
I will share a few pics from my dining room table build, and you can checkout the full set of plans for this table HERE on Ana’s site!
Let me start with price….
$65 and all built with pine framing lumber!
How great is that?? Â It was a super easy piece of furniture to build as well.
I used Gorilla Wood Glue and deck screws for most of the construction! 😉
I also used my Kreg Jig® on a few parts!
For those of you on the fence about finally purchasing one of these, go for it! This tool is AMAZING, and has been life changing for me! It has enabled me to furnish my entire home for very little cost. It’s a small investment with a HUGE return. You will thank us! I suggest getting them from Amazon! Ash and I are Amazon junkies… Best prices and free shipping… WIN WIN! Here is a link to the model Ash and I use below!
That kit is really everything you will ever need, other than screws as you run low!
I LOVE, LOVE the results and the price for this solid wood table!! This table can be modified to an outdoor table by just spacing your top boards a bit more apart.
To finish it off, I stained the whole thing with Rust-Oleum Ultimate Wood Stain in Dark Walnut. This is definitely one of our top picks for stain! It adds a good warmth and rustic feel and compliments a wide variety of interior design style.
To protect that, I added two coats of Spar Varnish on the table top.
Want to see a few more pics?? Yah.. Me too! 😉
What do you think??
Did I mention $65???

Free plans for the matching benches coming soon!

I love this table! I just built the bench, and love it!
I am not sure of how to attach the table top to the legs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
We are trying to figure the same thing out! No one seems to want to answer that question. :/
Drive 2 1/2″ wood screws from the top of the table into the legs underneath.
You’re awesome! Thanks!
Wont it show?
What kind of wood do you suggest?
I’m looking to create this table, using the same finishes you used. I was wondering since it’s had almost 3 years of weathering, if you would use the same products and do everything the same as when you built this, knowing what you know now?
My husband just finished the last coat on my table.. we used the Kona poly because I like my furniture almost black dark.. It’s SO gorgeous and I LOVE IT!!! It’s going to be my indoor table
Here’s the pic
Looks great! How did you attach the top to base? Thank you!
Absolutely love it! Building one for my new house!
How do you give it the “weathered look” do you just lightly stain so some of the wood shows through??
Think I could make the legs out of my scraps right now!! Super excited to go outside and give it a try! My husband also milled some Red Oak so I think I’m going to use that for the top!
I want to make this table 84 inches long. I need help or suggestions on how to modify the base for that length. Please help. Thanks.
I’m in love….this is my summer project ….thank you for sharing
How is everyone connecting the boards that make the top of the table to each other? Kreg Jig? Is the Kreg Jig HD best for this?
I love this table, but I can’t seem to find a good link to the plans as the one that is posted to Anna White’s sight is broken. Could you either repost or send them to me?
Thanks for the plans! I love the look and style of the table! First time using a Kreg Jig and I am in love!
I made this table about 6 months ago and I loved it! Turned out perfect! Now it seems to be warping and the planks are now parting and I have no idea why?! Can someone please help me? The table does not look go now! What did I do wrong?
Thanks
Sarah
Same thing happened to me…did you ever find a resolution??
has anyone built a matching bench for this? Just curious to see what ratio you used for the leg pieces. Building the table for sure soon, just need to make sure that the bench doesn’t look crazy.
I love this table. I built mine in one day, about 12 hours.
I see that you have used this table outdoors–I’ve been thinking the same thing 🙂 Have you had any issue with swelling wood?
It is under a roof so It stays directly out of the weather, no problems yet.
Did you use the dark walnut stain? Our table is built (my husband’s first time to build anything) and we are nervous to stain it in fear of messing it up. I read somewhere (after the table was finished, of course) that pine is hard to stain. Any tips with staining that you couod ahare? Yours looks great!
I used Minwax poly stain, antique walnut but brushed it on one section/board at a time and wiped it out right away to keep as much wood grain contrast as possible then hand rubbed two coats of satin poly on.
Here is a picture with a matching bench made by reducing the trestle leg measurements by half.
Thank you!
Did you find the bench plans on here too?
No I didn’t. I basically took the dimensions for the table and reduced by half with a few modifications.
I know this is late, but oil based wood conditioner!
