My Carpet Selection – House Update

Hey guys!!  I’m back with another house update 🙂  One question we get a LOT is ‘what color and brand is your carpet’?  When renovating and building, it’s actually one of the most overwhelming decisions to make because – there are SO MANY CHOICES out there!  I was overwhelmed with the choices myself (and realized why we get that question so often).  So, I’m really excited to share my experience in carpet selections with you!

Gameroom-CarpetI started by searching online for the perfect color/brand and found American Carpet Wholesalers.  I loved their prices and they had a ton of selections!  I felt great about the company once I realized they had a Google trusted store badge!!!

So where to go from there?  I contacted the company and requested some samples of different colors and materials that I liked.  They were super helpful and quick to respond and my samples arrived in a couple of days.  I was looking for a carpet that was dark enough to hide messes 😉 but also stain resistant.

bedroom-carpetI decided to go with Mohawk’s Smartstrand product. It’s recycled – WHAT!  Never knew recycled carpet existed!  It is made from over 1/3 renewable sources, in part it is made up from garden variety corn…crazy!  The process to make the fiber uses 30% less energy to produce than what is used to produce nylon.  That is equal to 1 gallon of gasoline!  The production also has 63% less emission of greenhouse gas.  The sample really blew me away.  It’s super plush and it is by far the softest carpet I have ever touched!  The color? Weathered Oak.  It is the perfect blend of darker neutrals and I love the warmth it adds to every room.

bedroom3-carpetAmerican Carpet Wholesalers also sent me 2 padding options.  My favorite was the Smart Cushion, also by Mohawk.  It has a spill-safe moisture guard and antimicrobial additives to inhibit the growth of mildew, mold and fungus.  Gross to think about so I was all about antimicrobial 😉  Plus, it is sooooooooo soft.  The samples they sent were large enough to get a really good idea of how the pad felt and this one was the winner by everyone in our family 🙂

bedroom2-carpetAfter I made my selections, I had a take-off done by our carpet installer and placed my order.  It was as simple as that 🙂

carpet-rollThe carpet and pad arrived exactly when I needed it and my installers got to work!

bedroom-installHow easy is that 🙂  With all that is involved in building a home, it was so nice and convenient to do all of this online.

Master-CarpetI still need to get busy building furniture 😉 If you are in the market for new carpet, I hope I helped make your decision a little easier,  I highly recommend American Carpet Wholesalers.  The process couldn’t have been easier, the price was right,  I got the perfect carpet that I envisioned and it arrived as-ordered!  It just doesn’t get any better than that!

More house updates to come 🙂 If you are interested in the paint colors I chose you can check them out HERE and if you missed any of my house building updates you can find them all HERE!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Sorry to bother you again…. But when I called the Wholesaler I told them Mohawk Smartstrand in Weathered Oak and they still said I needed a style because there was so many? Do you by chance know what he is talking about? Also, do you know the price/ sq ft? Thanks so much for replying so fast!

We are in the process of finishing our basement and love that carpet. Did you just order it off line and then hire someone to put it in? I love your carpet and paint colors as well! What color did you end up painting your gameroom? We are doing a playroom and I am having a hard time deciding what color to paint it!!!!

Ummmm….did you really cover up those beautiful wood floors that anyone & everyone would love to have?!?! Surely not! Carpets pretty, but I’m not a fan!

Ok, thank goodness! Lol 🙂 I didn’t think you really would, but your pics were somewhat misleading.

Do you still love the carpet after time has passed? We are looking at the smart strand as well but wondered if it is as durable as they say and if it’s as durable as nylon? We have a dog and went to make sure it is stain resistant s as easy to clean. Thank you for your review.

okay.. did you cover up gorgeous wood floors with gorgeous carpet?

    • Shanty2Chic on April 24, 2014 at 12:59 pm

No way!! 🙂 we did carpet in all the bedrooms and gameroom. The gameroom is upstairs and we opted for carpet to decrease the noise!
