Hey there!  I just built the easiest sawhorses EVER!  Not only am I happy to give my knees and back a break from working on the garage floor, I’m doing it in Shanty style!

I built these cuties for $24 for the set and it took about an hour:)  If you have just started building, or you are like me and have been working on the garage floor for 2 years,  you NEED these bad boys!

saw horse bracketsI purchased 4 2×4’s at 8 ft. and 2 packages of WorkForce sawhorse brackets.  You can find these on the tool aisle with the sawhorses.  On the back, there is a chart that tells you the cuts to make based on the height you want.  I chose the 32″ cuts so I cut 10 at 32″ (5 for each sawhorse).

building a sawhorseAfter you make the cuts, you just slide a 2×4 in each side of the brackets and secure them with nails where the holes are…it’s that easy;)  If you do NOT want the brackets painted, I suggest painting the 2×4’s before assembling….I learned the hard way and had to tape them off.  The final step is attaching the top 2×4 and you just place it in the top opening of the brackets, pull the legs apart and hammer nails where the holes are!

spray paintTo finish, I sprayed two coats of Rust-Oleum Summer Squash all over…

silhouettethen cut a stencil with my Silhouette Cameo.  I picked a Moroccan print.  You can get stencils from any craft store if you do not have a Silhouette.

how to spray paint a stencilI then picked Rust-Oleum Granite spray paint to paint the stencil down the outside of each leg.  I sprayed a very light mist, one time to get an unfinished rough look.  The 12×12 stencil was obviously not long enough to paint all at once so I just worked my way down, lining the stencil up with the pattern sprayed above it.

Mission accomplished!  1 hour and $24 later:)

It’s nice to have a little glam while you’re sweatin’ in your pj’s, building in the garage;)

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. Love these. This will be my next project (my first from Shanty 2 Chic). I’m glad to know I’m not the only one that builds in her pajamas.
