Just a Good Ol’ Revamp…

Wow…
It has been forever since I have done a big revamp.
It felt good!  I love seeing shanty turn chic :-)!!
I recently received this beautiful dresser from my in-laws.  I loved everything about it!  It has beautiful lines, WORKING drawers and perfect old hardware.  She just needed a little revamp.
I did sand the top a bit just to smooth it out a bit.  I didn’t prime it first but I did use Valspar’s new paint that is mixed with primer.  I notice a huge difference in this paint and the original Valspar.  It goes on so much thicker and seems very durable.
I removed all the drawers and removed the hardware.  I then painted everything with 2 coats of my perfect off-white.  It is a Valspar color called Ivory Lace.  It matches my trim, and I LOVE it!
Finally, I sanded my edges up a bit and topped everything with 2 thin coats of Polycrylic.  I prefer Polycrylic to Polyurethane because it doesn’t yellow over time and it’s not near as strong in smell so I don’t feel bad doing it inside!
Here are the results…
What do you think??  I thought the hardware was perfect so I didn’t change a thing there! Doesn’t a good revamp feel so good???
This dresser is going in my girls’ room.  I have one bed totally finished, painted and put together.  I bought all my wood for bed number 2 today and should have it finished in a day or so!! Whoooop!
Can’t wait to show you guys!!
Make sure to check out Silhouette’s great SHANTY sale they have going on through the 22nd by clicking HERE!
Happy Thursday :-)!!

  1. I LOVE it! And I'm with you – I love a good revamp:) We are currently at the drywall finishing stage of my 12 year olds bedroom. CANNOT wait to put the decor touches on this one!!
Can't wait to see the beds you are making. Can't imagine. My hubby wouldn't let me touch his tools:) But he makes stuff for me so I'm not complaining:)

  2. Holy schmoly!! Just something you whipped up between a dental visit and picking up the kids, Eh?? You are a force of nature. Love it, love you. Lots of love here.

  3. I've been seeing a lot of these "curvy" dressers on Craigslist lately. This looks so cute the way you finished it off!

  4. The white makes the lines show up so much better. I would love to have the color code. You did not use a glaze, right? Thanks,

  5. Hi Whitney!
I love the dresser makeover! Thank you so much for the tip about the Polycrylic. I never seal anything because of the yellowing, I'm glad there's a solution, thank you! Because of your advice and inspiration, I wanted to let you know I got a Silhouette for Christmas – so excited – but a little overwhelmed at getting started yet. I'm heading on over to the Shanty sale to check out the deals.
Have a super blessed weekend girlie!

  6. It's beautiful! Since stumbling upon your website over the Christmas break, my mind has been on overdrive with revamping and doing crafts. Being a mother of three under three and teaching full time, I can't keep up with all the projects that my mind is coming up with! I love your blog and can't wait until summer time so that I can start on some of these projects!!

  7. That looks incredible! You are right, the hardware fit perfectly no change needed there. Thanks for the polycrylic tip, I didn't know that there was another option out there. 🙂

  8. Yummy!!! It looks just gorgeous! Great great job. I love that the dark wood peeking out on the edges allowed to you to not have to glaze it for the antique look-perfect!
