I am always looking for inexpensive, but cute gift ideas.  This all led me to my next project!  This is actually a take off of another project I did way back in July of last year for Ellyot’s nursery.

I made a fabric magnet board to hang in her room.  I love the way it turned out and thought making a smaller version would serve as a great baby shower and teacher gift.  So… Here is how it turned out!

I started with a great frame I found at Hobby Lobby for half off.  I took out the glass and cardboard and spray painted it with a coat of Rust-Oleum Heirloom White.

While that was drying, I started on my board.  You can find the galvanized metal at Lowe’s.  It’s in the plumbing section.  I bought the piece that was 24″x36″ and spent about $7.  This will make lots of frames for very little dough.  I have found that this stuff cuts great with a sharp pair of regular scissors.  Just make sure you use gloves!  I traced my cardboard piece onto my metal with a sharpie to get the size I needed.

I used my scissors to cut the metal out.  I then hot glued the metal piece to my cardboard.

I decided to use paper for this frame but you can also use fabric like I did on my first memo board.

I used 3M spray adhesive on the metal and attached it to the backside of my paper like this.

I used a craft knife to cut around the cardboard.  Now my frame was dry and I placed my paper covered metal into the frame.

At this point I was ready for my magnet.  I had some cute gold buttons that I loved the shape of.  I spray painted them with a little heirloom white, cut the shank of the back and hot glued a magnet to.

That’s it!  Here it is from the front.

I thought this would be a perfect frame to display my new little bean.  What do you think?

This is a easy gift idea that you can customize so easily!  And the best part was the cost!

Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Don’t forget about tomorrow’s linky party!  We want to see any and all projects, crafts, revamps, recipes or whatever you have done lately without the help of the hubs 😉

I need some help with your metal magnet board project. It says to hot glue the metal to the cardboard and then it states to use 3M adhesive on metal and attach to backside of paper?

    1. Yes… Hot glue metal to cardboard backing. To attach the paper or fabric to the metal you use spray adhesive. Thanks and let me know if you have any other questions.

  6. That is adorable! If you do not want to have to deal with the mess of cutting up a huge board (which trust me I know it is a pain)… you can buy tin roofing shingles in a 6 pack at a home improvement store for like $2.50 and they measure 5×7, not cuts no hassle. I love how you did this, and congrats on the all the baby showers to all the happy momma’s!
