Pottery Barn Inspired Media Console

Hey guys!  We are back from an AMAZING family vacation and feeling so blessed that we were able to have our entire family together for a whole week!  We can’t wait to do it again next year!  We’ll share some fun pics with y’all later!  For now, on to the DIY:)

Remember the Pottery Barn Console I started last week?  Well I finished it and LOVE it!

So, after I attached the doors, I painted the main console with Behr Cozy Cottage (satin) and I stained the top boards with Minwax Dark Walnut!  My two favs!  I followed with Minwax Polycrylic to finish the stain.

I roughed the edges up with my 3M sanding block….

and then went back over the edges with the Minwax Dark Walnut stain.

Now the fun!

Instead of using MDF or plywood for the faux drawers, I decided to use 1×6 boards so I could stain them to match the top!  I stained the 1×6’s before cutting them and this made it a little easier.

I attached the faux drawers with my nailer but I used the good ‘ol hot glue gun to keep them in place while I nailed them (this was a life saver;)

Knobs:)

The knobs I picked were not long enough so I had to use this “thingy” to drill out the backs:)

That “thingy” worked great (minus the mess)!  I purchased these great glass knobs at Hobby Lobby (1/2 off:)

DONE!  Total money spent was $175 including hinges and knobs!!!  That’s almost a 90% savings!!!

I still need to fill the cubbies with something cute, decorate the top and hide my eyesore of TV cords but it works for now:)))

Did I mention I love the storage:)

I’m so happy I went with 4 cabinets vs. drawers and cabinets!

Thanks so much for stopping by:)  ~Ashley

  1. Could you please tell me your measurements you used for the fake drawers in the front. I know you said you used a 1×6 instead of the MDF, but do you know exact measurements of them,? or how did you figure out what measurements to use?!
