Project (URL):

Time to Complete: About two months liesurely

Total Cost: About $60

Finishing Details:
Being that this table is huge and I wanted to be able to move it when we move, I created a removable base. Instead of using 2x4s for the horizontal supports on the base, I use 4x4s, cutting out a groove for the lengthwise 2×4 supports to give it strength, and adding some custom shims to off set the difference in size between 2 2x4s and 1 4×4. This allowed be to place a threaded insert in the 4x4s and a recessed hole for a bolt in the table top. It works great! Additional info: everything but 4x4s is reclaimed (made leveling very interesting), routered table edges for style, used a homemade oxidizing solution for the stain, and finished with a wipe-on water based poly.
