My kids closets are awful….like embarrassing. It’s my fault because I have never given them anything to keep them clean and organized. They have turned into collect-alls.
I spent 2 hours picking up before I started on the organization…ugh! I saw rolling crates at IKEA that were perfect but pretty pricey. I was pretty sure I could make them for almost nothing…..to work I went!
I started with MDF scraps that I had lying around the garage (probably from previous mess-ups;)
I cut 1×4′s for the front and back of the crates (I measured his closet and cut the wood to fit two crates).
To build, I just predrilled the bottom (MDF) to the sides (MDF) and secured with Gorilla Glue wood glue and wood screws.
Next, I just placed 4 1×4′s on each side to form the front and back of the crates. I used Gorilla Glue wood glue and my battery nailer.
I wanted the crate to roll so the boys can get them out of the closet easy so I bought these casters from Wal-Mart and screwed them to the bottom corners of the crate.
Had it been up to me I would have chosen a fun way to finish these but….my son wanted his favorite color so blue spray paint it was;)
It needed a pull so I used this nifty drill bit to drill two holes in the center.
I used 4ply jute for the pulls and secured them with knots on the inside of the crate.
I was lazy and didn’t paint the inside because it will be full of toys and inside the closet;)
It’s a hit with Miss Tenley….let’s just hope it is a good start to organization!!!!!
Well, I’m off to dig through scraps and build more crates! I’ll be back later to share the cushions I found for my chairs
Have a great Friday!!!!
