We have built all of our kids multiple bed, throughout the years! We realized we have been neglecting Man’s Best Friend! We couldn’t just design any dog bed, it had to be Shanty Style so here it is – a DIY Farmhouse Dog Bed! Just click the Play Button below to watch!
We designed this dog bed to fit this large dog mattress. You can find the mattress HERE!
Super fun and easy right?! And, did we mention we only spent about $60 in lumber?

DIY Farmhouse Dog Bed – headboard sides
The first step is to assemble the “L”‘s. These will be the sides of the headboard. We attached a 1×2 to a 1×4 with wood glue and finish nails. Do this two times.
Attach the headboard slats to the back of the “L” pieces with 1 1/4″ finish nails and wood glue.
Flip the headboard over. Measure and cut the top trim to size. Attach it to the top of the headboard with 1 1/4″ finish nails and wood glue.
Measure and cut the diagonal trim pieces to size. Center them on the top of the headboard and attach with 1 1/4″ finish nails and wood glue.
Attach a cleat to a side piece with 1 1/4″ finish nails and wood glue. The headboard end should be flush. Do this for both sides.
DIY Farmhouse Dog Bed – cleat assembly tip
Note: These cleat assemblies should be mirror images of each other.
Attach the foot board piece to the end of the side pieces. Use 1 1/4″ finish nails and wood glue.
Attach the mattress slats to the cleats with 1 1/4″ finish nails and wood glue. The end pieces should be flush and you can space the rest out evenly.
Attach the end and side trim pieces with 1 1/4″ finish nails and wood glue. The inside of the trim pieces should be flush with the inside of the bed frame.
Finally, attach the headboard to the back of the platform bed frame with 2 1/2″ finish nails and wood glue.
DIY Farmhouse Dog Bed – stain it

Another successful project that I want to do myself
Great project. My German Shepherd loves it. I wanted to post a pic, I got one of her on it with a huge smile on her face, but I’m not computer savvy enough to figure out how to post the pic.
My golden is going to love it. Bookmarking this for later.
Love it, made one myself and put my own twist on it. Wanted to post a pic but was able to. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas, watching your videos has brought me back into tye workshop.
I have an English bulldog that weighs 65 pounds. Do you think this build will be strong enough to hold her weight?
Can you build
Me one and how much
Oh I love this so much! Hoss is straight up adorable, and you can tell from the photos that he loves his new bed!
Oh. Em. Gee. This might be my favorite thing you two have ever made (and that’s saying a LOT)!! ?? Cutest thing ever! I will 100% be making this for my dog Fletcher. Maybe this will get him to sleep somewhere other than my bed all day!! ?
Also, I ❤️ Hoss. ?
