As many of you know, I have been in the process of redoing my dining room. Â I have shared my tables, benches, sideboard and floating shelves over the last several weeks. Â Today I am sharing the DIY wine bottle wall sconce that I built to hang on each side of my window. Â Here they are!
Aren’t they fun?? Â SUCH a simple build too! Â And let’s talk price before we start…
You can build 2 sconces with 1 2×6 board. Â These run around $6 a piece. Â I found the wine bottles at Hobby Lobby for under $2.50 a piece (kept me from cleaning labels off of wine bottles), but you can also reuse old wine bottles.
That makes the total cost of these $6 in supplies… Too legit.
Let me show you how simple they are to build!
Start by making your cuts. Â I used my miter saw to make my cuts.
Next, add a line of Gorilla Wood Glue to the edge of your smaller piece like this.
Clamp it to the front of the long wood board like this. I lined my small board up 2″ from the bottom of the long board. Â I used a Kreg bar clamp to hold it in place, and used 2″ wood screws through the back of the long board and into the small boards. Â You may want to pre drill on this part to keep the wood from splitting. Â I used 2 screws for each sconce.
Now your sconce should look like this…
Before attaching my wine bottles, I finished the sconces. Â I first stained them using Varathane Dark Walnut stain. Â After that dried, I added some Vaseline to the edges and then painted the whole thing using a latex Sherwin Williams color called Anonymous (SW 7046). Â After that dried really good, I used my Ryobi Corner Cat sander over the entire thing. Â Where the Vaseline was the gray paint just chips away. Â I love the finish.
To attach the wine bottle, I used Gorilla Glue Epoxy.
I mixed both parts in a paper plate and put a bunch on the bottom of each bottle.
Next, I placed them in the center of each sconce and let them dry.
To attach my sconces I used my Ryobi Impact driver with 2.5″ wood screws. Â I found the studs on the wall first. Â If yours don’t line up with studs evenly be sure to use anchors. Â Just drive the wood screw through the back board and into the stud or anchor in the wall.
I left my screw showing because I knew my flowers would cover them up.
That’s it! Â Told you it was easy!
I found my stems at Hobby Lobby and my window panels are from Pottery Barn.
Be sure to check out the other updates I have done in the dining room!
Thanks so much for stopping by guys! Â Let me know if you have any questions at all!

Love these! Here’s mine…
how would you suggest hanging these without directly drilling into the wall?
I used these with a picture frame hook. It makes it stick out a lil bit so I put rubber stoppers on the bottoms.
I am in love with the tolix style chair! Please tell me where you found that.
I would love to know where you got your curtains from!
What a beautiful idea! I love them!
