After searching high and low for the perfect lamps to pair with my new DIY Rustic Modern King Bed and my DIY Sliding Barn Door Nightstands, I had a lightbulb moment 😉 I decided to combine our favorite DIY Rustic Corbel with a cute cage light to create this DIY Corbel Light Sconce! This is such a fun, and easy project for you guys to tackle this weekend!

We built this cutie for about $25 and it’s super easy to make yourself! Come hang out with us in our shop and build it with us! Just click HERE or the box below to watch!

How fun and easy is that!?!

Here is the run down of what you will need to build your own!

1 Pendant Light – HERE on Amazon

1 Light Cage – HERE on Amazon

1 – 2×4 stud

Your Kreg Jig – find our fave model HERE on Amazon.

and one wood chisel (find them at the hardware store).

And a nailer. We used our Ryobi 18V nailer but you can also use a hammer an nails.

You’ll also need some wood glue and a few wood screws 😉

We used our favorite stain – Briarsmoke by Varathane. You can find it HERE on Amazon. Make sure to watch our How to Stain Wood video to learn how we get our rich stain finish 😉

That’s it! To hang it on the wall, I used a 3″ wood screw and drilled directly into the sconce (below the cross piece and above the top arm). I didn’t have studs behind the wall, to drill into. So, I drilled two pilot holes into the sconce and into the wall behind it. Then, I used THESE ANCHORS (hands down my favorite anchors for hanging) and screwed them into the holes in the wall. Then, I lined up the sconce holes with the anchors and used the 3″ wood screws. Super easy! You can use wood filler and stain to cover the holes.

I built my own using the plans at www. WoodworkPlans.info – highly recommended you check those out too. They are detailed and super easy to read and understand unlike several others I found online. The amount of plans there is mind-boggling… there’s like 16,000 plans or something like that for tons of different projects. Definitely enough to keep me busy with projects for many more years to come haha

  2. Brilliant idea and perfect for what I need beside my bed. My only question is – does that “old-fashioned” bulb give off enough light to read by? Thanks. Your work is amazing.
