Since building my last kids table for the playroom, I have added 2 new kiddos to the picture. I knew it was time to “upsize” my table. I had a design in mind and worked with Ana, who delivered with these great plans for a kids table. I am in love! It fits my space perfectly, and there are room for friends! Here it is all finished!
I will share some tips and photos here, and you can see the full set of these plans on Ana’s site!
For starters… I had this table totally built in under an hour and a half. It really was a very simple, basic build. My total cost for lumber was under $65. For a table that seats 8 kiddos, I would say that’s pretty darn good!
You start by building 3 legs…
The middle one is just a bit different…
For the 2×2’s, I used my Kreg Jig® to attach them at the corners.
I would have used them here too in the middle of the table, but I had already attached the 1×2’s. I had to use wood screws to attach it there. If I could go back, I would have put some pocket holes on those 1×2’s. Lesson learned!
To attach the table top, I laid it flat on the ground and put my table base on top of it. I then used wood screws from the bottom and drilled through my 2×2’s to attach. Easy peasy!
For the stain I used my very favorite…
Rust-Oleum Ultimate Wood Stain in Dark Walnut
And since my kids have been known to make a few messes, I finished the table with this…
Rust-Oleum Ultimate Polyurethane with Soft Touch
It’s awesome! It dries very quickly, and you don’t see brush strokes. Love it!
That’s it! Pretty simple! Here are a few more pictures!
So… What do you think??

Here are the cubies and crayon holders.
I just got done building this set and it was a fun project! Thank you for the inspiration my daughter loves the rolling cubes 🙂
I am in LOVE with this table! I really want to make one for my boys but I’d like to make it a little taller – 27″ in height. Can you tell me what cuts I would need to make differently? I’m very new to DIY building projects and I want to be sure I’m doing it right. 🙂
what is the dimensions of the table, height, width, length etc. angle degree of cuts for leg tops and bottom ?
Here is a link to the project panel I found at Lowes http://www.lowes.com/OrderItemDisplay?storeId=10151&langId=-1&catalogId=10051
Absolutely love this !!
Oh this table is so perfect! Are these plans for the kids table still available? When I click the link it won’t open? Thanks!
This is soooo great. Love it! I wish I had a separate playroom for the kiddos. Maybe someday! I think I could still find a place for some of the cuteness you have though. Those rolling cubes are awesome. I’ll be following. Thank you!
Are you kdding me with your creative cuteness? I gotta stop looking and start creating….. this could be my first project as one set of table and chairs is never enough, especially during playdates! Thanks for the inspiration and reminder that I need to DO IT……!
Thanks so much Shannon!! You do need to do it!! It’s addicting 😉
Your playroom looks fabulous! Would love to do this for my kids, will be checking out the plans. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much Stacey!! I appreciate it!
what material is your top? Its too pretty to be ply.
Project panel from Lowe’s! $31
I went to Lowes to buy this Project Panel, and they told me that the it could not be stained? It says on the plan that it is Pine but at my lowes they did not have a pine one? Do you know the exact name of this piece and is all the project panels that same and will hold stain? Thanks for your help!
Wow!! Love this and your frames, your boxes! Enjoy reading our blog! I think I will have to try those frames and boxes for myself!
Awesome Amy! I would love to see pics when you get them finished! 🙂
I can only say you are amazing and I don’t know HOW you do it! 🙂 AWesome!! I am your biggest “pinner” I think….I should start a board with just your name! 🙂
Haha you are sweet Niki!! We would love that! 😉
This is very cute! I hope it is far from your laundry area, otherwise I can see it being hijacked for sorting and folding. On, the other hand, the kids DO need to learn how to do the laundry ;o)
Haha good point Lisa! Thanks so much!!
LOVE this!! I just got done building the other table & chairs your previously had.. now I want this set!! 🙂 Perhaps in time when I want to redo my son’s room again!! I do want to incorporate those storage cubes though, I was thinking two of them at the end of his bed!!?! 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration, you guys always nail it everytime!!
Thank you Sarah!! And I have the same problem… As soon as I finish a project I find another piece to replace it :-))
This look fantastci–I love Ana!

Thank you Mindi! I actually have the same ‘room’ problem too, so I just give stuff away all the time to make room for the new goodies 🙂 Thanks again!
